TO ALL PRNET MEMBERS

The Tucson Amateur Packet Radio group has started the alpha test phase of the TAPR terminal node controller today....

Our first dozen printed circuit boards are finally here, along with all of the necessary components. Cost for the TNC with integral modem and power supply is $125 1 We should be able to keep well below $200 in a complete package, including connectors, cable and fancy box...

I expect many weeks of wrestling with FORTH software and PROMS before the boards will be speaking both TAPR and Vancouver protocols, but we should have something to show st the SW ARRL convention in early June.

We won't release the wave-soldered, pre-tested beta boards until we are sure of the hardware and software, so I'll keep all informed of developments...

Hank,

Sorry for assuming that you knew about the FM-21 - It is a relatively old rig. Here is an abstract of the specs from the users manual:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Clegg FM-21 is an all solid-state VHF Transceiver designed for reliable two way FM communication in the amateur 220-225 MHz service. Use of recently developed MOSFET amplifiers and mixers combined with the latest in integrated circuits and monolithic filters yields performance comparable to that expected in the lower frequency bands. An exclusive feature of the FM-21 is the CRYSTAL SAVER technique which permits use of a single channel crystal for both receive and transmit in SIMPLEX and REPEAT modes. A single channel crystal suffices for three functions:
